Wanting
to do something different in Western Australia, we decided to leave behind
the well-trodden Albany trail and head north to Exmouth, home of the famed
Ningaloo Park where whale sharks frequent each March. Unfortunately it
was summer so we donned our sunglasses, took our handy fly swatters and
hit the vast empty lands.
Early each
morning we would see dead kangaroos on the road with vultures hovering
above. Sometimes it was a rabbit or a fox which we soon unkindly called
road pizza. We also almost killed a parrot when we drove into a flock
of the most colourful birds. At the end of each evening we would examine
the road trophies on our radiator gauze -dead flies, bees, etc.
About midway
to Ningaloo, we stopped at Monkey Mia where we touched two dolphins that
faithfully come to shore every morning. We also made a trip out to sea
and saw seacows and dugongs. We spent a lot of time fishing and even swam
among the magical world of coral reefs and large pelagic fishes at Coral
Bay.
It was the
most memorable visit for our family. There was the sun, sea, surf and
sand. Each morning a glorious sunrise and each evening a blazing golden
sunset. We were one with nature!
Congratulations
Khong Bee! Youve won for yourself a Lonely Planet travel guide.
