Editor's Note:
Wishing all readers (some belated) Selamat
Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Merry Christmas Happy New Year, Pongal Valthukal and
Xin Nian Kuai Le.
It is a wonderful time of the year, where
most of us will have been able to observe and celebrate one or more days
of significance - irrespective of whether we actually subscribe to any
particular belief or traditional practice. It is a time when all of us can
share and participate in the joyful festivities as a community of distinct
yet cohesive individuals.
And there are now more of us in Central
Singapore district now. We have included in this edition our map to
indicate the enlarged boundaries. For a speedy way of determining whether
you reside in Central Singapore district, a copy of VoiCeS in your mail
box is one clue, another is to log onto our Website at:
www.centralsingapore.org.sg and key in your postal code.
For readers who do not have a home or
office computer, please pop into the e-Corner located at your RC Centre or
the computer clubs at Community Centres/Clubs in the district and access
our Website with the free-to-use computers. If you cannot afford to buy a
computer, call us and we will be pleased to see if you qualify for a PC
under the PC Re-Use Scheme.
We have introduced a few new sections in
this edition of VoiCeS, such as, the health column where we will try to
answer (with expert medical opinion) queries relating to health issues,
particularly relating to conditions associated with the aged. Please send
us your queries and we will endeavour to have them addressed by the
brightest and best medical officers in practice. In our next edition, we
will be featuring ergonomics at home, so if you have any queries or
comments relating to this, please send it to us.
We have also started a spot the difference
game, using the photographs taken by residents in our district.
There are lots of items on offer in this
bumper edition and we have scoured the entire district to bring you News
Beat, Waz Happening and other relevant updates. I hope you will find
something enriching or compelling to discuss or share with your friends
and family.
We would like to express our deepest
gratitude to all the readers who sent us letters/emails and each of our
volunteers for contributing articles. VoiCeS belongs to all of us, so
please keep sending us your ideas, comments, contributions and feedback.
Speak up, stake your claim and let your
VoiCeS be heard...
