If you are trying to stay fit and healthy by putting yourself through exercise binges and crash diets, think again.

Some 2,000 residents found out during the Tanjong Pagar GRC Body and Mind Sports Day 2004 that staying fit and healthy means keeping the body and mind active by playing various sports and games regularly and eating properly.

The event, which took place on March 7, saw participating residents from six divisions, namely Moulmein, Queenstown, Radin Mas, Tanjong

agar, Tanglin-Cairnhill and Tiong Bahru, take an hour-long brisk walk from their respective divisions to Henderson Secondary School.

They started trickling into the school at nine o'clock and while the older folks found refuge in the hall to rest, those with energy left to burn gathered at the field for a short session of the Great Singapore Workout.

Dressed in yellow tee shirts and dark track pants, participants and grassroots leaders engaged in 30 minutes of light aerobic activity.
After the workout, participants scrambled to the courtyard to pit their mental skills against each other. Many senior citizens were seen crowding around the xiang qi section eager to show off their mental agility. The younger contestants, however, preferred international chess and jigsaw puzzles.

Those tired after the brisk walk and workout session made a beeline to the air-conditioned hall for magic shows and dance performances.
