TOTAL
DEFENCE 2004 CAMPAIGN
|
Launched
in 1984, Total Defence (TD) as a national security strategy and public education
campaign will reach its
20th year in 2004. In recent years, its relevance has become more apparent.
Since the events of September 11 2001, TD's profile has been raised as it
is a useful public education tool to help Singaporeans understand how we
can work together to overcome the security, economic and social challenges
Singapore is facing.
The TD campaign theme for 2004 is: Total Defence. It's Not Complete Without
You. It emphasises the importance of every Singaporean playing a part in
TD.
The Total Defence Campaign 2004 will be officially launched on 14 February
04 at Suntec City. For more information, please log on to http://www.totaldefence.org.sg
from February onwards. |

Need
a break from the hustle and bustle of urban Singapore? You don't have to
pack your bag and head to some remote part of the world. All you need is
to head down to Fort Canning Green on the evening of 28th February and you'll
be taken through a relaxing journey to explore your "Body. Mind. Spirit."
"Body. Mind. Spirit." is a free for all, mass yoga event held
in conjunction with a two-month nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign
called "Love Your Body". Launched in mid-January, the "Love
Your Body" campaign hopes to reach out to women aged 20 to 35 by advocating
a greater love of their bodies and by so doing, raising the level of concern
for, and awareness of, the issue of breast cancer amongst them.
Participants at the "Body. Mind. Spirit." event, young and old,
male and female, will be immersed in the natural and soothing environment
of Fort Canning Green where they will be led through a basic yoga session
made up of breathing and meditation exercises and simple postures by professional
trainers from Shambhala Yoga Centre. MTV VJ Denise Keller, spokesperson
for "Love Your Body" campaign, will also be leading the participants
during the session.
After an invigorating session of yoga, participants will be encouraged to
visit the exhibition area set up by the Breast Cancer Foundation to find
out more about the issue of breast cancer and learn about techniques of
Breast Self-Examination. There will also be stalls set up by various sponsors
to help raise funds.
The "Love Your Body" campaign is organised by students from the
Nanyang Technological University and supported by the National Youth Council,
Lee Foundation and Astra Zeneca Singapore. "Body. Mind. Spirit."
is a project supported by Central Singapore Community Development Council,
under the Mayor's Imagine Fund.
To register for the "Body. Mind. Spirit." event or to find out
more information on the "Love Your Body" campaign, please contact
Ms Joyce Lee at 9692 0909 or email loveyourbody2004@yahoo.com.sg. |
